UPDATE #!: Note that there is road construction on Hwy 9 between Saratoga and Skyline Blvd. There are 2 sections of Hwy 9 that are one-lane traffic. Expect considerable delays or consider taking an alternate route if coming via Hwy 9 in Saratoga. UPDATE #2: As of 7/27 the Group Campsite is almost full. A group campsite for birders and butterfliers will be specially reserved for this event. Weekend package for Friday and Saturday evenings: $25/person donation to Mountain Parks Foundation Only checks will be accepted. Space is limited. Tent camping only. What to Bring: - Alarm clock, if you want to be sure you are awake for the early morning bird walks. - Binoculars/scope - A dish to share at the Wings Over the Basin potluck on Saturday (see SCHEDULE for details) - Plates, cups, utensils, etc. - Field Guides - Camera/film - Charcoal or wood for cooking & fires, newspaper, lighter fluid, BBQ tools, matches. You can buy firewood at headquarters where you check in. Gathering firewood is not allowed in the park - Tent/ground cloth - Sleeping bag/pad - Food & snacks for the weekend. There is no restaurant at Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The closest restaurant is in Boulder Creek. There is a little store that is open from 10-4 and it is a great place to get cold drinks, espresso, ice cream and treats. - Water bottles for hikes - Day pack for hikes - Flashlight - Layers of clothes (it can get chilly at night, warm during the day) - Extra socks, shoes - Sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent - Hat - Jacket
